The cheapest way to travel to Comino (and the Crystal Lagoon) is by using the local ferry services from Ċirkewwa or Marfa in Malta or Mġarr Harbour in Gozo. While the ferry journey is around 20-30 minutes, bear in mind that if you include the bus trip/taxi to the terminal, the entire journey to Comino Island takes approximately one hour.
More details can be found in this dedicated guide: Blue Lagoon Ferry – How to Catch It.
Now, here’s the catch. The ferry drops you off at the Blue Lagoon ferry terminal. From this point, the coastal track to the Crystal Lagoon is around 10 to 15 minutes. For the most part, it’s a moderate walk, but you need to take extra caution when you’re heading further down towards the lagoon. The rocks are sharper, and some parts are quite steep, so make sure you’ve got a good pair of walking shoes.
Starting with the obvious, the Crystal Lagoon is a wonderful place to enjoy a swim. This area is also characterised by dazzling azure waters that shine brightly under the sun’s rays. Meanwhile, snorkellers can get a glimpse of the underwater landscape characterised by large boulders, tunnels and a sandy seabed.
With so many caverns, reefs, and wreck dives waiting to be explored, the Lagoon is truly a diver’s playground.

Comino Island isn’t a destination you can only visit during the summer months; it’s actually quite beautiful and more peaceful during the winter months. You can enjoy a hike along the cliffs and get to places such as Santa Marija Bay and San Niklaw Bay, which are within walking distance on the small island.
N.B. The ferries still run (on a more limited schedule) if weather conditions are great and the seas aren’t rough.
The Crystal Lagoon is located on the tiny island of Comino, one of Malta’s sister islands.
Yes, you can technically get to the Crystal Lagoon from the Blue Lagoon on foot. You can see it clearly from above, but to actually swim in the lagoon, you’d have to climb further down. The only real way to get there is by boat.
The Crystal Lagoon’s depth varies from 2 to 15 meters, making it an excellent spot for swimmers, snorekellers, and divers of all levels.
