Hopping onto the Blue Lagoon ferry from Malta (and even Gozo) is a popular and easy-to-use transportation option. Overall, the service is reliable and affordable, making it convenient to get to the Blue Lagoon (or to discover Comino Island at your own pace).
Alternatively, you can also consider booking an organised boat trip that departs from popular tourist destinations such as Sliema and Buġibba (and nearby villages).
This guide will give you all you need to know to catch the ferry (or how to use an alternative service), with local advice and everything in between, of course.
The ferry service to visit the Blue Lagoon is available from both Malta and Gozo. While the service is commonly referred to as the “Comino ferry”, it’s operated by multiple providers (offering similar service and prices), and it drops you off at Blue Lagoon Bay.
The ferries operate daily from Ċirkewwa (northernmost point of Malta), and during peak season, pick-up times are roughly every 30 minutes. In summer, some providers also offer departure from a small bay nearby, called Marfa Bay.

The most common ferry departure points from Malta are in Ċirkewwa (Google Maps location) and Marfa Jetty (Google Maps location), both located at the northernmost tip of the island. Various bus routes reach this point, also because Ċirkewwa is the departure point for the larger Gozo ferry.
Buses are available from popular spots around the island. Depending on the location and traffic, journey times vary from 15-20 minutes (e.g., Mellieħa) to 30-40 minutes or over 1 hour.
These are some of the most popular routes:
Visit the Malta Public Transport website or download the Tallinja App to view all stops and schedules. The Google Maps route planner is generally reliable for planning public transport trips as well.

If you prefer a shorter journey and are happy to pay a little more, you can also consider booking a taxi. The most popular services (with apps on App and Google Play Store) are:
There are two Comino ferry operators you can use to get to the Blue Lagoon:
The most popular ferries to the Blue Lagoon operate from Mġarr Harbour, which is easy to reach by bus, including a direct route from Victoria.
Ferries are also available from Gozo, provided by the following operators:
Don’t feel like a long bus commute and want to avoid crowds? Want to go there with family or a group of friends? Consider booking an organised boat trip to the Blue Lagoon instead.
Although the cost of a day trip by boat is a little higher compared to ferry services (starting at €30 p.p.), you save lots of time, and you can ultimately enjoy a more comfortable trip. It also offers you the option to combine a morning or afternoon at the Blue Lagoon with a combo trip to Gozo (which is a popular choice).
Depending on the tour you choose, these are some of the popular perks offered:

Visiting the Blue Lagoon is worth the trip to enjoy this stunning bay. However, it does get crowded in summer with loads of tourists and many boats heading there daily. Consider a combo trip with Gozo to get enough time at the Blue Lagoon, but not to spend the full day there.
The Blue Lagoon ferry runs every 30 minutes during peak season. The service offered by Ebsons runs between 9:30 AM and 6:00 PM, while Comino Co-Op Ferries operate between 8:30 AM and 7:00 PM.
Yes, you can go to the Blue Lagoon without a booking, but ONLY if you’re getting there on a boat trip and not planning to set foot on shore at Comino Island. Otherwise, you need to pre-book your slot in advance via the access system, and upon arrival, you must present the QR code to a member of staff.
