Blue Lagoon Boat Tours from Gozo

If you’d like to stay in Gozo during your trip to the Maltese Islands and would like to take a boat trip to the famous Blue Lagoon, you don’t have to go back to the main island to do so.

Forming part of the village of Għajnsielem, Mġarr Harbour is used daily by many tour company operators who organise boat trips to popular destinations like Comino.

Check out my guide below for the top-reviewed Gozo blue lagoon boat trip recommendations.

Getting to Mġarr Harbour

Although Gozo is smaller than Malta, and you can get from point A to point B relatively quickly, you still need transportation to get to the harbour unless you’re staying within walking distance.

  • By Bus: Routes 301, 303, 322, and 323. Depending on where you’re staying, the journey takes around 15-30 minutes. The stop you need to get off at is Vapur. I recommend staying in Victoria since the main bus terminus is located here.
  • Taxi: Use Bolt, Uber or Ecabs (download app) for taxi services. Prices range from €6 to €15 depending on your hotel’s location.
  • Rental Car: If you plan on renting a vehicle to get around the island more efficiently, on-street parking is available, or you can opt to leave your vehicle in the parking area below the Mġarr Harbour ferry terminal.

Tips & Things to Know Before You Go 📝

  • Don’t risk arriving at the last minute to get to Mġarr Harbour. Arrive at least 20 minutes prior to departure so you can meet the crew and find a suitable spot on board.
  • Although boat trips to Comino are more expensive than the local ferry service, they are a great option to help you explore Malta and its sister islands more efficiently. Especially if it’s guided, the skipper will share interesting facts + take you around more secluded locations rather than just the key points of interest.
  • If you’re travelling during peak season, it’s a good idea to purchase your boat trip tickets ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
  • You can leave your belongings on board the vessel, relax, and make use of the boat’s facilities.
  • Visitors heading to the Blue Lagoon on an organised boat trip don’t need a free governmental access pass. However, if you plan to disembark the boat to explore the rest of the island or chill on the shore, you need to pre-book the access pass. More info here: Blue Lagoon Malta tickets.
  • While most tours are available from mid-April till around early October, some operators may offer boat trips during the low season, weather permitting.
  • Bring a good phone/camera to take plenty of memorable shots of the surrounding caves, cliffs, and famous landmarks, e.g, St. Mary’s Tower.
  • Don’t forget the essentials: sun protection (with SPF 50+), a good pair of walking shoes if you want to explore the tiny island, and some cash if you fancy getting lunch and drinks from the kiosks at the Blue Lagoon.
