How to get to the Blue Lagoon from Gozo

Wondering how to get to the Blue Lagoon from Gozo?

I’m a local, and in this guide, I show you exactly how to get there.

Long story short – There are two ways you can get there:

  1. Organised Boat Tours
  2. Local Gozo-Blue Lagoon Ferry Services

To help you weigh the pros and cons between the two, I created this guide with all the information you need to enjoy a smooth journey from Gozo to the island of Comino and its stunning Blue Lagoon.

Accessing the Blue Lagoon

Following the new measures introduced in 2025, you must now pre-book an access ticket via the online booking system if you want to get a spot on the shore or walk around the island throughout your day on the island of Comino.

Some ferry operators include the pass with their own tickets, but it’s always best to check with your operator of choice.

Check out the full details here: Blue Lagoon Access Tickets Guide.

Ferry Services vs Organised Boat Tour from Gozo

Let’s compare the two most popular ways of getting to the Blue Lagoon from Gozo:

Comparison FERRY SERVICES FROM GOZO  BOAT TRIPS FROM GOZO
Price The cheapest option (approx.€10-15 for a round-trip ticket), but you need to get to the terminal quite early. More expensive (starting from €30), but you can enjoy a shorter and more comfortable journey to Comino.
Flexibility The last trip from Comino Island back to Gozo is usually at around 6:00 PM (depending on the company and how many people are still on the island). There are a variety of Blue Lagoon boat trips to choose from. Some companies offer later starts to the day, allowing you to enjoy a sunset tour instead.
Access ticket You need to pre-book your free ticket to the Blue Lagoon to set foot on shore. You don’t need to book your free ticket to the Blue Lagoon if you’re staying on board or just swimming.
Sightseeing The skipper includes a visit to the caves on your way there or on your way back. Most companies include stops at caves and small bays only reachable by private boat.
Experience With little space on shore in summer, you’ll need to find a spot somewhere. Lockers are available, but not the best experience. You can leave your belongings on board, chill, enjoy sunbathing, buy food and drinks on board (or get your own), and use the water slides & snorkelling gear.

Tips from a Local 📝

  • Take an early ferry if you’re using the local ferry services. This will give you a better chance of getting a spot on the sandy beach or rocky shore upon arrival.
  • If you intend on relying on public transport, book your accommodation in Victoria, Gozo’s capital city. The main bus terminus is located here.
  • Rather than just booking a day trip to Comino, consider booking a combo tour that takes you around Gozo’s southern coast.
  • Bring a camera or a good phone to take pictures of some of the most beautiful spots in Comino, including the Crystal Lagoon with St Mary’s Tower in the background and the caves.
  • It’s always a good idea to have some cash on you to pay for any snacks, the ferry ride to Comino, and if you’d like to rent an umbrella and sunbed.
  • The best times to visit the Blue Lagoon and Comino are between late May and the first half of June or late September and October. There are usually fewer visitors during this time of year, the cold winter weather is still far away, and you can generally still swim.
