Option 1: Getting there by yourself

Especially if you’re staying in prime locations like Valletta, Sliema, St Julian’s, Buġibba, Qawra, St Paul’s Bay, and Mellieħa, you can easily get to Ċirkewwa via public transport. What’s more, taxis are also available if you don’t want to wait around for a bus.

That being said, you need to factor in the time needed to make the journey. Since Ċirkewwa is located at the northernmost part of the island, it will take at least 30 minutes by taxi and around 45 minutes to an hour by bus.

To help you decide if you’d rather make your way to the terminal or if you’d like to opt for an organised day trip instead, here are some pros and cons to consider:

📝 Important: Getting access tickets

If you want to set foot on land, you need to book access tickets in advance; if you want to go on a boat tour and stay on board, there’s no need.

Pros & Cons of the DIY option

Pros

  • Cheaper journey to the ferry terminal in Ċirkewwa than a boat trip
  • Ferries operate every 30 minutes from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM (Comino Co-op Ferries) and 9.15 AM to 6:00 PM (Ebsons).
  • It’s easy to book a taxi via your smartphone by downloading the respective apps.

Cons

  • The journey via public transport is longer, at least 1 hour by bus and 30 minutes by taxi. Buses can also get a little crowded, particularly during the peak season.
  • You need to book a spot with the access system, since you’re setting foot on land.
  • If you’d like to find a spot on the shore, it’s best to take an early ferry, so that means you also need to take an early bus.
